The Ballard Community School District is growing! While this is a good thing, it also means we must plan for the future as we meet the needs of our students.

We project enrollment to increase by more than 200 students in the next decade. Some buildings are already approaching capacity, and future enrollment growth will likely lead to space challenges as we serve more students across grade levels.

Creating a Master Plan

Starting in January 2023, Ballard will build a facilities master plan to guide the district for the next decade. A Steering Committee consisting of community members, the Board of Education, and district administration will leverage multiple data sources to determine district needs, including:

  • A comprehensive enrollment projection

  • A building capacity study

  • Revenue projections, debt payment schedules, and bonding scenarios

  • A district-generated list of maintenance projects at all facilities

  • Community and staff input forums and survey, which will give district residents and staff an opportunity to review the district’s needs and provide input on potential solutions

The result of this process will be a comprehensive Facilities Master Plan that allows us to prepare for the future needs of our thriving school district.

The Steering Committee’s goal is to present its recommendation to the Board of Education in May 2023. We invite you to learn more about the process, the work of the committee, and how our needs will evolve as we continue to grow.
